Scary Busy; October 23 2024

I grew up having the coolest house on the block, every Halloween. We had the lights, the sound, the fog. My dad had professional theatre equipment. My brother and I would go Trick-or-Treating, and people would tell us that we just had to check out the house at the end of the street –

And we’d proudly inform them that was our house.

My kid’s changed her mind about her Halloween costume. She wants to lean into the spooky of the season now, which her former Hello Kitty costume plans didn’t mesh with. Instead, she’s going to be a werewolf. I ripped up a shirt, tea-stained it, and got a lot of fabric paint involved – she tried it on yesterday and I think it looks awesome!

Moving-wise, we’re maybe… 50-60% unpacked, I think? Not bad for the first week, considering life goes on; we’ve got to work, we’ve got to clean, we’ve got to feed ourselves. My kid’s bringing homework back, and it never occurred to me when I was young how much parent involvement there is in that. I’ve got to keep her on track, help her get things together for projects. Occasionally I have to lend her my laptop.

Things are busy, and I haven’t had much of a chance to write. I’m going to do my best to get back to it as soon as possible!
